Hybrid Cloud Migration for On-Premise system

The Situation/Problem

The client, an established legal firm with presence in Singapore and Malaysia, runs its Content Management Application, Client and Contracts Management, Finance and HR system on premise.

Managing IT infrastructure in-house was a pain point as it has distracted management attentions from other important businesses. The need to consolidate the IT resources and down size the IT infrastructure became apparent when the firm decided to move to a new office.

The onset of the pandemic crisis has hastened the transition to the new setup as the need to work from home quickly took a strain on their IT resources which must continue to provide security, continuity and connectivity seamlessly. In addition, their servers were old and insufficient in-house IT support had further caused frustrations and concerns.

The Solution

iWV was appointed to look at their requirements, challenges and end goals. The proposed viable IT architecture and requirements include :

Minimal transition downtime to ensure operations will continue without disruptions and well supported
A hybrid model – office related applications remained on premise and the business applications to be on cloud
A cloud-based solution using dedicated Hypervisors and iWV redundant storage solution
A “Lift and Shift” method of moving the client’s current IT setup to iWV hosted dedicated cloud servers while building an extended LAN to connect to the data center with improved security and backup functionalities
Minimize capital expenditure and to lower Total Cost of Ownership

The Results

The migration was performed seamlessly with no major disruption to the client’s day to day operations. The VMs now run on the iWV cloud dedicated hypervisors with increased redundancy, improved backup, 24/7 support and monitoring done by iWV tech support.

With this setup, their staff in Singapore and Malaysia could seamlessly connect to their core applications through secure VPN from office and from home.

This cloud migration also free up their in-house IT manager’s time to focus on core business applications leaving the infrastructure and monitoring support to IWV.
